Queens Sports Club crowned inaugural Women’s National Premier League Super 40 champions

Queens Sports Club were crowned the inaugural Women’s National Premier League Super 40 champions after beating Takashinga Queens by 95 runs in a one-sided final at Kwekwe Sports Club.

Queens recovered from a difficult start with the bat to post 208-9 before dismissing Takashinga for 113 in 16.5 overs.

Tasmeen Granger top-scored with 56 and played a key role in the recovery after Queens slipped to 87-5.

She shared an 84-run sixth-wicket partnership with Thubelihle Saidi, who contributed 29, to help Queens recover and set Takashinga a challenging target.

Takashinga’s chase quickly unravelled as they lost four wickets for 10 runs inside the first three overs.

Lorraine Pemhiwa provided some resistance with 64, but Takashinga were eventually bowled out for 113 to hand Queens a commanding 95-run victory.

After chipping in with 22 runs with the bat Queens captain Nomvelo Sibanda then completed a dominant all-round performance, taking 5-17 from 4.5 overs to finish off the chase.

Sibanda was deservedly named Player of the Match.

Her performance capped a standout tournament, with the Queens captain finishing as Bowler of the Tournament with 15 wickets in five innings and Player of the Tournament after also scoring 74 runs.

Natasha Mtomba was named Batter of the Tournament after scoring 179 runs at an average of 59.67.
