Zimbabwe international forward Macauley Bonne scored his first goal for English National League side Southend United in their 2-0 victory at Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.
Bonne had previously failed to score in 24 appearances for the Shrimpers.
The 28-year-old joined the National League side four months ago on a one-year deal, having been released by League Two side Gillingham at the end of last season.
The failure to score since his move to Essex had seen the former Ipswich Town frontman heavily criticised by a section of the club’s fans.

Southend United boss Kevin Maher, who has kept faith in the Zimbabwe international despite his failure to score, was a relieved man after watching Bonne finally ended his goal drought.
“Macca has got one in the first half we felt was onside but it’s not been given,” said Maher.

“He’s kept going though and I’m delighted for him to get his goal and I think there was relief from everyone when it went in.”
“There’s been a lot of stick for Macca at the minute but he pulls the shirt on for Southend United so we have to back him,” said Maher.
“His work rate and how he leads the line meant he deserved that goal today and you could see the relief from him more than anyone.”
Bonne was later joined on the score-sheet by Gus Scott-Morriss who headed home just before the hour mark.
