Explosive top-order batsman Tadiwanashe Marumani has been added to the Zimbabwe squad ahead of the three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Afghanistan which gets underway at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

The 20-year-old who has three ODIs and Twenty20 International caps, last played for Zimbabwe in July last year against Bangladesh.

Although he has been used sparingly in recent months after being thrown in the deep end in the early stages of his international career, Marumani has a lot of potential to be the solution to the Chevrons’ top-order batting woes.

The former Falcon College prodigy scored two half-centuries for the Zimbabwe A during their tour of Nepal last month and will be hoping to make a solid comeback to the team during the T20 series against the Afghans.

Marumani is the only new face in the squad while opener Takudzwanashe Kaitano and fast bowler Tanaka Chivanga have been excluded from the T20 squad.

Zimbabwe have retained the rest of the squad that faced Afghanistan in the just-ended one-day international series which they lost 3-0 after struggling with the bat.

The T20 series will get underway with the back-to-back games set for this Saturday and Sunday at Harare Sports Club.

The third T20I will be played at the same venue on Tuesday. All the matches are scheduled to start at 1300 hours local time.

The T20Is will serve as part of Zimbabwe’s final preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B 2022.

Zimbabwe will host the eight-team qualifying tournament in Bulawayo next month. The two finalists from the qualifier will qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 to be staged in Australia.

Zimbabwe Squad: Ervine Craig (captain), Burl Ryan, Chakabva Regis, Chatara Tendai, Jongwe Luke, Kaia Innocent, Madande Clive, Madhevere Wessly, Marumani Tadiwanashe, Muzarabani Blessing, Myers Dion, Ndlovu Ainsley, Raza Sikandar, Shumba Milton, Tiripano Donald
