Zimbabwe-born Rugby League star Titus Gwaze has been named one of the two vice-captains at Rugby Football League (RFL) Championship side Sheffield Eagles for 2025.

Gwaze has established himself as a key player at Sheffield Eagles, who ply their trade in the RFL Championship which is the second highest division of rugby league in Britain after the Super League.

The 25-year-old prop has been with the Eagles for the last two seasons, featuring 52 times across all competitions and scoring seven tries in the process.

The seasoned prop will share the vice captaincy duties at the South Yorkshire club with fellow Super League star Matty Marsh, with the duo deputising Jamaica international Joel Farrell chosen as club captain.

Since joining on a three-year deal from Halifax Panthers, Gwaze has brought a ferocious running style and tough defence, a perfect combination to the current pack.

Gwaze’s tally of 52 appearances is by far the most games he’s played for any club to date, with 114 senior career appearances to his name in total.

Five of those, all made off the bench, came in Super League for Wakefield Trinity between 2019 and 2020.

He has also previously featured for London Broncos and made his professional debut with Wakefield in Super League against Warrington six years ago.

Meanwhile Gwaze is one of two Zimbabweans in the Sheffield Eagles squad together with prop Masi Matongo who made return to rugby league in November last year after a year away from the game.

Matongo put pen to paper on a one-year contract with Championship club Sheffield Eagles for 2025.

The 28-year-old came through the ranks at Hull FC, making 58 appearances for the Super League side between 2015 and 2020.

Matongo joined York Knights for 2022 – playing 19 games – before having a spell with Bradford Bulls in 2023 where he made nine appearances.
