Zimbabwean athlete Alpha Mpofu produced an outstanding performance to claim a silver medal in the men’s 400m final at the 2026 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, capping a stellar indoor season for Cloud County Community College.
Mpofu powered around the track in 46.23 seconds, securing second place and earning eight valuable points for his team in the national championships.
The race was won by Benjamin Nsiah of New Mexico Junior College, who crossed the line first, while Lamont Johnson of Barton County Community College finished third to complete the podium.
Mpofu’s strong run ensured he finished among the top sprinters in the NJCAA ranks, delivering when it mattered most and securing a national podium finish for the Zimbabwean athlete.
Speaking after the race, Mpofu expressed both pride and ambition following his performance.
“I am really happy, but I am coming for my gold medal soon.”
The confident statement highlights the sprinter’s determination as he looks ahead to future competitions and aims to climb to the top of the podium.
Mpofu also played a key role for Cloud County Community College in the men’s 4x400m relay, teaming up with Keon Williams, Barafa Abdulazis, and Sonycko Ilet.
The quartet clocked a new school record time of 3:10.07, finishing sixth overall in the relay event and further underlining Mpofu’s impressive indoor campaign.
The Zimbabwean’s performances continue to showcase the growing impact of Zimbabwean athletes competing in the United States collegiate athletics system.
