Championship side Cardiff City have reportedly submitted a formal bid for Zimbabwe international Shane Maroodza as they look to sign the promising left-back from Bosnian Premier League club FK Sarajevo.

According to Italian transfer journalist Lorenzo Lepore, citing club sources, Cardiff have tabled an offer worth £750,000 plus a 20% sell-on clause for the 22-year-old defender.

However, FK Sarajevo are said to be holding out for £1 million together with a 25% sell-on clause before sanctioning the transfer.

Maroodza, who holds a UK passport, joined Sarajevo in October 2025 and is under contract until June 2027. He enjoyed an impressive debut campaign, making 22 league appearances during the 2025/26 season.

The proposed move is also strengthened by existing links between the two clubs, with Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan having held a 50 percent stake in FK Sarajevo until January 2026.

Born in England, Maroodza represented Leicester City’s academy before spells with Huddersfield Town, Ossett United, Bradford Park Avenue, Barnet and Irish club Kerry FC, prior to his move to Bosnia.

The defender has already earned five senior caps for Zimbabwe since making his international debut and is regarded as one of the Warriors’ brightest young prospects.

According to Transfermarkt, Maroodza currently has an estimated market value of €200,000, although Sarajevo’s valuation reflects his rapid development over the past season.

A move to Cardiff would see Maroodza return to British football for the first time since leaving England, while offering him the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s most competitive second-tier leagues.
