Zimbabwe international striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has credited his AmaZulu teammates and the club’s technical team after being named the Betway Premiership Player of the Month following his impressive start to the season.
The 23-year-old forward received the award after scoring five goals in four matches for AmaZulu, a run of form that has also seen him emerge as the early leader in the league’s scoring charts.
Ngwenya’s performances have earned him recognition beyond South Africa, with the in-form striker also included in Zimbabwe’s preliminary squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Reacting to his latest individual honour, Ngwenya said the award was a result of a collective effort.
“I just want to say thank you for the award. Also, I want to thank my teammates and the technical team because I wouldn’t do it without them,” Ngwenya said.
“I do believe that they also contributed so much in this.”
AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane has challenged the Zimbabwean forward to continue raising his standards after his remarkable start to the campaign.
Ngwenya, however, said he sees the expectations placed on him as motivation rather than pressure.
“Yeah, I know, it’s not like pressure but I will take each game as it is, and I will score each and every goal.”
Ngwenya has been one of the standout performers in the early stages of the Betway Premiership season, with his goals playing a key role in AmaZulu’s strong start to the campaign.
The award is another milestone in what has been a breakthrough period for the young forward, who will now hope to carry his club form into the international arena following his inclusion Zimbabwe’s squad for the upcoming international assignments.
