HARARE: Zimbabwe have recalled Innocent Kaia, Ryan Burl and Tadiwanashe Marumani for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, with left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza also returning to the 15-member squad.
Kaia earned his recall after an impressive run of form, highlighted by his match-winning 140 against Bangladesh in the one-off Test earlier this week. The batter last featured in an ODI in December 2023, while Burl’s previous appearance came in January 2024.
Marumani and Masakadza last represented Zimbabwe in the format in February 2025. Following Zimbabwe’s historic Test victory in Harare, fast bowler Richard Ngarava has been appointed captain of the ODI side for the first time in his career.
He replaces Sean Williams, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation for drug addiction and is unavailable for selection.
Kaia has also enjoyed success in List A cricket, scoring a century for Zimbabwe A during their recent tour of Bangladesh. His domestic form has been equally impressive, finishing as the leading run-scorer for Rocks in the Pro50 Championship with 500 runs, including three centuries and one half-century.
The 32-year-old also excelled in the Logan Cup, Zimbabwe’s premier first-class competition, where he amassed 409 runs at an average of 51.12, including two centuries in eight innings.
Burl also impressed during Zimbabwe A’s recent tour of Bangladesh, scoring 50 and 20 while claiming one wicket across the two one-day matches. Earlier this year, he struck back-to-back centuries for Rhinos in Bulawayo, first in a four-day match and then in a 50-over fixture.
Ngarava will spearhead Zimbabwe’s pace attack alongside Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri and Ernest Masuku. The spin department includes all-rounders Burl and Wessly Madhevere, with Masakadza providing a specialist left-arm spin option.
Several players who featured in Zimbabwe’s last ODI series against Sri Lanka in August 2025 have been omitted, including Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Johnathan Campbell, Tony Munyonga and Trevor Gwandu.
The three-match ODI series will be played at the Harare Sports Club on 6, 9 and 11 July.
