Zimbabwe netball team captain Felistus Kwangwa put up a brilliant show in defence to help Surrey Storm claim a thrilling 55 – 22 over Sirens in the Vitality Netball Super League on Saturday night.
Storm are enjoying a much-improved campaign compared to last year as they sit in sixth place on the 11-team competition after 15 matches.
Kwangwa was voted man of the match as Storm notched up their seventh win of the season at home.
“I am so honoured to be man of the match we really worked hard as a team and credit to my teammates because you couldn’t do it as an individual. So it was sort of like teamwork though I was exceptional which is okay,” Kwangwa said after the match.
She shared her sentiments on the hard-fought victory.
“I think we stayed composed as a team because we were down in the first quarter and we we didn’t let it go into our heads and we just stayed focus. And with home advantage we couldn’t allow the opponents to take the game away from us.
And I think considering last time when we played against them it was those basic errors that we did and I think today we made some but we really tried to minimise that which helped us win today.”
Thank you Storm for a brilliant performance tonight. Let’s keep on grinding , 5 games to go now 💪 https://t.co/nEMn1jjX8B

Surrey Storm have another match away to Wasps on Sunday afternoon and Kwangwa hopes the team will continue where it left off against Sirens.
“I think we will just continue where we left off. I know our bodies will be a bit sore but we will try our best to contest very hard. I know we claimed a win the last time we played against the Wasps.
“I know its going to be a very tough match especially because we away (from home) but we are going to stay composed as a team and I think we can get it,” she said.
Storm coach Mikki Austin singled out Kwangwa for praise following the match against Sirens.
“I think it was even for the first half and I think second half is where we really put our foot of the pedal and stand our authority on the game.
“I thought defensively we were outstanding today. Felisitus was a different class from minute one,” she said.
