Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi could be set for a return to Ligue 1 just months after joining Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the Premier League side reportedly open to letting him leave during the January transfer window.
According to French publication L’Équipe, Wolves would not stand in the way of Munetsi’s departure, with several unnamed Ligue 1 clubs monitoring the 29-year-old midfielder’s situation.
Munetsi joined Wolves from Stade de Reims in February after spending six seasons in France’s top flight. While he initially established himself in the squad, his game time has significantly reduced following the managerial change at Molineux.
The Zimbabwe Warriors star was a regular under Vitor Pereira, but has struggled for minutes under current head coach Rob Edwards, a situation that could prompt a January move back to familiar territory in France.
Munetsi remains under contract with Wolves until 2028, but L’Équipe reports that the club, currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with just two points, are willing to consider both a permanent transfer or a loan deal. A loan move could appeal to Ligue 1 sides operating under tight financial constraints.
The midfielder recently made headlines back home after being left out of Zimbabwe’s AFCON 2025 squad for the finals in Morocco due to reported injury concerns. However, Munetsi publicly stated that he was fit and ready to represent the Warriors following his omission.
A potential return to Ligue 1 could offer Munetsi regular game time as he looks to revive his club form and reassert himself as a key figure for both club and country.
