Zimbabwean forward Tawanda Maswanhise has earned high praise in Scotland after Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou declared him “a big player for us” following his brilliant brace in a 3–1 win over Kilmarnock.
The Warriors star, fresh from national team duty in Qatar, struck twice in ten minutes during the first half at Rugby Park.
His goals took him to 11 for the season in all competitions, reinforcing his growing reputation as one of the most exciting young Zimbabwean exports in European football.
Maswanhise is also the joint top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with seven league goals.
“He’s a big player for us” – Askou on Maswanhise’s rise
A delighted Askou could not hide his admiration for the 21-year-old, emphasising that Maswanhise is now central to Motherwell’s plans.
“He has scored a lot of goals and he’s a constant threat and he’s doing good defensive work as well, so he’s a big player for us,” said the Motherwell gaffer.
“We are really happy to have him here. He’s got a lot to learn still. I think he could have been even more effective and we can develop him into an even better player.”
Askou also praised the Zimbabwean’s growing confidence, saying:
“When you have that much flow, it’s hard not to wake up in the morning and think, ‘I’m going to score today.’”
Maswanhise’s performances have been closely followed back home, especially given his recent involvement with the Warriors.
His pace, direct running and improved decision-making have earned admiration in the Scottish Premiership, where he has quickly become one of Motherwell’s most reliable attacking weapons.
With the Steelmen currently sitting sixth in the league, his contributions have been vital — and his continued rise offers exciting prospects for both club and country.
If Maswanhise maintains this level, he could attract attention from larger clubs in the UK and beyond.
