Plymouth Argyle’s Zimbabwe international defender Brendan Galloway will have a routine hernia procedure on Monday and is expected to be out of action for four weeks.

Galloway was substituted in the second half of the 2-1 defeat away to Stockport County on January 31 due to what head coach Tom Cleverley described at the time as an abdominal issue.

The Zimbabwe international was ruled out for the Pilgrims’ next game, when they lost 4-1 to Lincoln City at Home Park, but had been on target for a possible return to action against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday before suffering a setback in training.

With Galloway injured and Matty Sorinola completing a two-match suspension, transfer deadline loan signing Wes Harding again filled in at left-back as Argyle produced an excellent all-round display in a 4-0 win, which moved them up to 12th position in League One.

Cleverley said: “Brendan was training yesterday and he felt a recurrence of his abdominal issue. He will have a routine hernia procedure on Monday and will be out for four weeks.

“We knew he had a hernia. He had an injection in the week to try to supress the pain, which you can play with. The injection can have a really positive effect or not have much of an effect.

“It obviously didn’t have much of an effect. We have to just do the procedure on Monday and hopefully he will be back mid next month.”

Galloway, who is out of contract with Argyle at the end of this season, has made 17 starts and three substitute appearances in League One this season.
