Zimbabwe international Andy Rinomhota is in negotiations to extend his stay at Reading FC ahead of next season, while compatriot Tivonge Rushesha looks set to leave the club after a frustrating campaign.
Reading confirmed in their retained list that discussions are ongoing with Rinomhota over a new deal.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who rejoined the club last October on a free transfer before signing a short-term deal in January, has struggled for regular game time due to injuries.
Rinomhota managed just 117 minutes of League One action during his second spell but showed promise in limited appearances before being ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.
A graduate of Reading’s academy after joining from AFC Portchester in 2015, he has made over 130 appearances for the Royals across both spells.
In contrast, Rushesha will depart the club after not being offered a new contract.
The 23-year-old, who joined from Swansea City in 2023, made 38 appearances but struggled for opportunities this season.

Speaking candidly in a recent video, Rushesha did not hide his frustration:
“I’ve hated this season. I’m a competitor, I want to play, I want to win, I want to be the best player on the pitch every time I play a game.”
“It’s sh*t. I’ve played five first-team games this year, I haven’t made a bench in the league and that’s a disgusting feeling.”
“I look back and it’s disgusting. It’s so sh*t. You feel as a player you can do more and contribute but don’t get the opportunity.”
Mental toll of limited opportunities
Rushesha also opened up on the mental strain of limited game time and playing at youth level despite being in his mid-20s.
“The last first-team game I played was in October. I’ve tried to find opportunities to play but they haven’t come,” he revealed.
“I’ve had to train knowing nothing I do will change anything… that’s tough.”
“I first played Under-21 football when I was 15, I’m now 23 so that’s a mental struggle.”
“This season feels like a write-off… where does that leave me?”
While Rinomhota’s future at Reading remains under discussion, Rushesha now faces a crucial next step in his career as he looks to rebuild after a difficult season.
