Zimbabwe international Corbin Mthunzi reached another important milestone in his promising career after making his senior debut for Ipswich Town in a goalless pre-season draw against Spanish side Cartagena on the club’s training camp in La Manga.
The 19-year-old centre-back played the full 90 minutes as the Premier League side completed their preparations in Spain, becoming the latest Zimbabwean youngster to earn an opportunity with an English top-flight club.
Comfortable in central defence and midfield, Mthunzi joined Ipswich from Brighton & Hove Albion in April 2025 after impressing during a trial and signed a two-year professional contract at Portman Road.
Since then, he has established himself as a regular for John McGreal’s Under-21 side, helping Ipswich enjoy an impressive first campaign in Premier League 2 during the 2025-26 season.
His rapid progress was rewarded earlier this year when he made his senior international debut for Zimbabwe, having previously represented England at Under-15 level before switching allegiance to the country of his father’s birth.
Mthunzi has already earned three senior caps for the Warriors, underlining his growing reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s brightest defensive prospects.
The former Brighton academy defender will now hope his first-team debut is another step towards breaking into Ipswich’s senior squad on a regular basis ahead of the new season, having continued to impress since arriving at the Suffolk club.
