Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent refused to dwell on disappointment after narrowly missing out on a second victory of the season at the Jakarta International Championship, losing in a playoff to Australia’s Wade Ormsby on Sunday.
Vincent was on course to become the first player to win back-to-back events on The International Series having won the International Series Morocco in July before losing to Australian Wade Ormsby on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off.
Ormsby triumphed after making a routine par on the par-four 18th, where Vincent found water with his second shot.
Despite the heartbreak of coming up just short, Vincent was gracious in defeat, praising his rival’s performance and finding plenty of positives in his own display over the week.
“I don’t see it as disappointing at all,” Vincent said after the nail-biting playoff loss.
“Wade played great golf, he hung in there and is a well-deserved champion. I had my chances to win, but I don’t think it’s ever fully in my control. I was struggling just to make the cut on day two, and to then have a chance to win on Sunday, I can’t ask for much more than that.”
It was still a memorable week for the Vincent family, as Scott’s younger brother Kieran also impressed with a strong showing, finishing in third place.
The siblings’ performances underlined Zimbabwe’s growing presence on the international golfing stage, with both players continuing to build on their reputation as world-class competitors.
After his second successive runnerup finish Scott, affectionately known as “Mhondoro” (The Lion) in Zimbabwean golf circles, regained the lead over Japan’s Kazuki Higa on the Asian Tour Order of Merit list.
He also goes top of The International Series Rankings, leapfrogging Lucas Herbert from Australia to further strengthen his bid for a return to the LIV Golf circuit.
