Zimbabwe’s top sprint hurdler Ashley Miller Kamangirira continued her impressive start to the outdoor season with a commanding win in the women’s 400m hurdles at the Texas Relays.

Having opened her campaign with a 58.04 victory at the Clyde Hart Classic, Kamangirira raised the bar in Austin, clocking 55.97 to win the Women’s 400m Hurdles Invitational at the iconic Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The performance marked more than just another win — it was a strong early-season statement from the Zimbabwean, who boasts a personal best of 55.09 in the event.

Demonstrating her versatility, Kamangirira also competed in the sprint hurdles, finishing third in the women’s 100m hurdles Invitational with a time of 13.15 seconds.

The race held added significance for the former University of Texas athlete, who later transferred to Florida State University, as she returned to familiar surroundings nearly a decade after her first appearance at the Texas Relays.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Kamangirira. “Having come here for a bit of my college experience was such an amazing journey. So, to come back almost 10 years after my first Texas Relays, it’s amazing to be able to walk away with the win today.”

A bronze medalist for Zimbabwe at the African Games, Kamangirira’s early-season form signals a promising campaign ahead as she builds towards major international competitions.
