Nerveless Mupachikwa steers Lady Chevrons home to clinch series win with game to spare

Opening batter Modester Mupachikwa hit a half century as Zimbabwe Women claimed a two-wicket win to clinch the three-match unofficial ODI series against the touring Papua New Guinea side with a match to spare on Tuesday.

Chasing a below par total of 126 to win the three-match series at Harare Sports Club, Mupachikwa was the hero for the hosts with an unbeaten innings which ensured Zimbabwe sealed the win despite a middle order batting collapse.

Mupachikwa struck five boundaries in her patient innings of 57 from 108 balls and combined with captain Mary-Anne Musonda for 34-run partnership.

Following a middle order collapse the Glen View-bred wicketkeeper batter shared another partnership with Loryn Phiri (12) to help Zimbabwe get over the line with 8.3 overs to spare.

Earlier on Tuesday, Zimbabwe’s seamers put on another inspired display with Josephine Nkomo and Francesca Chipare claiming three wickets apiece to dismiss Papua New Guinea for a low score for the second successive game.

The two teams meet in the third and final one day game on Thursday before shifting focus to the three-match Twenty20 International series.
