Ngarava reflects on ‘proud moment’ at Independence Day celebrations

Zimbabwe Test and ODI captain Richard Ngarava says he was deeply honoured to play a ceremonial role during the country’s Independence Day celebrations after handing over the Independence Flame to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The left-arm seamer described the occasion as a proud moment for both himself and the nation, saying the flame symbolises Zimbabwe’s unity, resilience and hopes for the future.

The left-arm seamer handed over the Independence Flame to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Maphisa Stadium in Matobo District, Matabeleland South. in what he called a proud moment for both himself and the nation.

“A proud moment for the nation. I am deeply honored to have served as a ceremonial torchbearer, handing over the Independence Flame to His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” Ngarava said.

“This flame stands as a powerful symbol of our nation’s unity, our resilient history and our bright future. Happy Independence Day, Zimbabwe.”

Ngarava was appointed Zimbabwe’s new Test and ODI captain in December last year, succeeding Craig Ervine after he stepped down from the role.

The 27-year-old has become one of Zimbabwe’s leading players across all formats and continues to grow in stature both on and off the field.
