Rising Zimbabwean sprinter David Nyamufarira capped off a memorable debut season in the US by clinching a gold medal in the men’s 60m final at the 2025 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Nyamufarira, who is a freshman at New Mexico Junior College romped to victory in 6.60s as he finished ahead of his compatriot Denzel Simusialela of South Plains College, who finished second in 6.63s.
Jamaican Trevor Hamer settled for the bronze medal in 6.67s.
Simusialela, who is set to join compatriot Tapiwanashe Makarawu at University of Kentucky went on to win the 200m title at the NJCAA Indoor Championships in 20.67s.
He finished clear of Trinidadian Elijah Joseph 20.72 while another Zimbabwean sprinter Carlton Siwela secured bronze 20.86.

Siwela, just like Simusialela is also on a scholarship at South Plains College and the duos impressive performances helped power their school, to the NJCAA Championship title.
Meanwhile there was also more success for Zimbabwe in the long jump as Tafadzwa Chikomba of Meridian Community College won the gold medal with a best leap of 8.06m.
Chikomba has reportedly committed to Kansas State University where he will be coached by reigning Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall.
