Zimbabwe international Matt McNab has secured a major career move after signing for English Championship outfit Coventry Rugby ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The talented back joins Coventry following a successful spell with Doncaster Knights and will arrive at the Nick Newbold Stadium carrying a growing reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s leading rugby exports.
McNab’s move comes at an exciting stage of his career as he continues to establish himself as a key member of the Zimbabwe Sables squad preparing for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
The 27-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Coventry, having made 71 Championship appearances and scored 35 tries during his professional career.
Capable of operating on the wing or at outside centre, McNab is renowned for his explosive pace, physicality and ability to create scoring opportunities.
Standing at 1.87 metres tall and weighing 99 kilograms, he has become one of the most dangerous attacking players in England’s second-tier competition.
Coventry head coach Alex Rae believes the Zimbabwean international will be a perfect fit for the club’s ambitious project.
“Great to welcome Matt to Coventry. He’s a player who has always impressed us. His pace, power and ability to beat people will really suit how we want to attack,” said Rae.
“What really stood out was how much he wants to contribute to the team off the field and be part of something special.”
McNab’s rugby journey began at Falcon College in Zimbabwe before he moved to the United Kingdom, where he attended Hartpury University and developed through one of England’s most respected rugby pathways.
After representing Hartpury in the BUCS competition, he progressed into professional rugby with Hartpury RFC before enjoying successful spells with Cornish Pirates and Doncaster Knights.
His consistent performances at club level have also translated onto the international stage, where he has earned 22 caps for Zimbabwe and established himself as an important figure in the Sables setup.
The Sables are also preparing for their maiden appearance at the World Rugby Nations Cup before turning their attention to next year’s Rugby World Cup, where Zimbabwe will make their long-awaited return to the sport’s biggest stage.
Speaking after completing the move, McNab expressed his excitement about joining Coventry.
“Joining Coventry is a great opportunity for me. The club has clear ambition and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with the group and hopefully sharing plenty of good moments with the players, staff and supporters next season,” he said.
The transfer represents another significant milestone for Zimbabwean rugby, with McNab becoming the latest Sables star to secure a move to one of England’s leading professional clubs.
