Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi says Wolves have been revitalised by the arrival of new head coach Cesar Peixoto as the club targets an immediate return to the Premier League.

Munetsi has rejoined the squad for their pre-season training camp in Portugal after spending the second half of last season on loan at French side Paris FC, where he rebuilt his confidence following a difficult spell at Molineux.

The 30-year-old believes the message from the club is clear after Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League.

“When I first signed here the main objective was to stay in the Premier League and last season we were not able to do that,” Munetsi said.

“The objective for the club now is getting back, and the chairman has made it clear to all the players that this is the ambition of the club because the club deserves to be in the top flight.”

Munetsi said Peixoto had already made an impression during the opening days of pre-season.

“The new manager has come in with a lot of fire, and it’s been seen in the training sessions,” he said.

“Everybody’s really working hard to make sure that when the season starts we’ll be ready to put this club back where it deserves.”

Although Peixoto has yet to coach in English football, Munetsi believes the Portuguese tactician’s high-intensity style is ideally suited to the demands of the Championship.

The midfielder followed Peixoto’s work in Portugal, having watched teams managed by the coach while former team-mates played under him.

“When he was in Portugal, he was managing two of my former team-mates, so I used to watch a couple of his games,” Munetsi said.

“The way he plays, there’s a lot of intensity and a lot of energy from his teams, and that’s exactly what we need in the Championship.

“You can already feel the energy that he has. He’s putting things in place that will put us in a better position to win games.

“You can see his game model, how he wants the team to be connected, the discipline and everything you need as a team to progress.”

Munetsi joined Wolves in February 2025 and helped the club retain its Premier League status under Vitor Pereira before enduring a difficult start to the following campaign, which resulted in his temporary move to Paris FC.

The Zimbabwean says the loan spell helped him rediscover the confidence that underpins his game.

“It was good to get back to the person that I was before the difficult start that I had last season,” he said.

“The best attribute for any player, besides talent, is confidence. When you’re confident, you’re able to do anything.

“Going to Paris on loan meant being in a different environment, getting that confidence back and becoming the player that I know I am.”
