Zimbabwe international Andy Rinomhota says he is excited to continue his journey with Reading after signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027.
The 29-year-old midfielder, a product of Reading’s academy system, expressed his delight after committing his future to the Royals as he looks to put an injury-hit campaign behind him and make a bigger impact next season.
“I’m delighted to be staying at Reading,” said Rinomhota.
“This club means a lot to me and I’m looking forward to getting a full pre-season under my belt and helping the team achieve its goals this season.”
The new deal marks another chapter in Rinomhota’s long association with the Berkshire club, where he first arrived in 2015 before going on to establish himself as a fan favourite during a seven-year spell with the first team.
The Zimbabwe international made 139 appearances for Reading during his first stint and was named the club’s Player of the Season in 2018/19. He also played a key role in helping the Royals retain their Championship status during the 2021/22 campaign.
After leaving Reading, Rinomhota enjoyed a successful spell at Cardiff City, making more than 80 appearances and earning the club’s Players’ Player of the Season award before returning to the Select Car Leasing Stadium in November 2025 following a successful trial period.
His second spell at Reading was disrupted by injuries and personal circumstances, which also saw him withdraw from Zimbabwe’s Africa Cup of Nations squad in December. As a result, opportunities were limited during the latter stages of the campaign.
Despite those setbacks, Reading manager Leam Richardson believes Rinomhota still has plenty to offer.
“Andy is someone we know very well and we’re really pleased to see him extend his stay with the football club,” said Richardson.
The contract extension will come as welcome news for both Reading supporters and Zimbabwe fans, with Rinomhota now focused on regaining full fitness and helping the Royals push for success in the coming seasons.
