US-based golf starlet November takes one stroke lead in Zim Amatuer Championship

US-based golfer Tariro November shot a first round level par 72 to take a one stroke lead going into the second round of the Zimbabwe Amatuer Championship at Chapman Golf Club.

November is currently on a golf scholarship at Western Texas College where he has just completed his first year.

The former Chapman Golf Club amateur’s round comprised three birdies on hole number one, two and 14 as well as three bogeys on number nine , eight and 16 for the first round lead on the star studded leaderboard.

There was five way tie for second place with another US-based golfer Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa, defending champion Michael Wallace, the inform Keegan Shutt, Wingate’s Shepherd Chiwaya and South African Matthew Mortimer finishing the day on one – over par 73.

Mutare-based 16-year-old golfer Braydon Amm, fresh from competing at the R & A Junior Open in Scotland, carded three-over par 75 to sit in sixth place.

US-based golfer Danielle Bekker is the highest ranked women’s competition after grossing 80 in the first round and enjoys a two stroke lead over long time rival Margret Nyamukondiwa, also based in the US, who managed 82.

The event, which is the country’s premier amateur tournament, will see two rounds being played on Saturday with the final round set for Sunday.
