Zimbabwe’s sprint queen Vimbayi Maisvorewa continued her impressive form by clinching her second 400m victory of the season at the Spec Towns Track Meet in the United States on Saturday.

Competing at the University of Georgia Track & Field Complex, Maisvorewa powered to victory in a season-best time of 51.66 seconds, shaving 0.05 seconds off her previous mark.

The Zimbabwean record holder finished ahead of Alexia Smith of Purdue University, who clocked 51.89, while her University of Georgia teammate Sole Frederick claimed third place in 51.97.

The victory marks Maisvorewa’s second individual 400m title this season, having earlier triumphed at the Clemson Invitational in January during the indoor campaign.

Since transferring from Auburn University, Maisvorewa has enjoyed a strong run of form, establishing herself as one of the top collegiate quarter-milers in the United States.

She capped off a brilliant outing in Georgia by playing a key role in the relay team alongside Michelle Smith, Shaquena Foote and Dejanea Oakley, as they recorded the third-fastest time in school history with 3:24.29.

In a thrilling anchor leg battle, Oakley held off former Lady Bulldogs star Aaliyah Butler, who ran a blistering 48.66 split, with a strong 49.86 finish to secure the win.

Maisvorewa’s continued success highlights her growing impact on the international stage and reinforces her status as one of Zimbabwe’s leading track athletes.
