Zimbabwe international Jonah Fabisch has signed a long-term contract with South African Premiership side Golden Arrows after leaving German third-tier club Erzgebirge Aue.
The 24-year-old midfielder joins Arrows as a free agent after the expiry of his contract with Aue, bringing an end to a career spent exclusively in German football.
Fabisch travelled to South Africa last month to assess his options after attracting interest from several Premiership clubs, but Golden Arrows ultimately won the race for his signature.
The Warriors midfielder is expected to report to the club in the coming days ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.
The move marks a new chapter in Fabisch’s career after rising through the academy ranks at Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, where he established himself as one of the club’s promising midfielders. By the age of 17, he had broken into Hamburg’s Under-19 side and was invited to train with the senior squad under then head coaches Dieter Hecking and Daniel Thioune.
Despite his progress, Fabisch never made a competitive first-team appearance for Hamburg, instead featuring for the club’s reserve side in Germany’s fourth tier before joining 1. FC Magdeburg II. He stepped up to the 3.Liga with Erzgebirge Aue ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Golden Arrows beat off competition from several Premiership clubs, with AmaZulu, Stellenbosch and Sekhukhune United all reported to have shown interest in the Zimbabwe international.
Fabisch, who turns 25 next week, is regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s most technically accomplished midfielders.
Born in Nairobi during his late father Reinhard Fabisch’s tenure as Kenya coach, he was eligible to represent Germany, Kenya and Zimbabwe before opting to play for the Warriors through his Zimbabwean mother.
