Warriors’ forward Tawanda Chirewa had a good game after he was introduced at the break in the 2 – 2 draw against Benin at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Thursday.
Chirewa also speaks on life at new English League One club Huddersfield Town where he is on loan from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Zimbabwe play Nigeria in Uyo on Tuesday as they look to revive their slim World Cup hopes.
WHAT HE SAID ON NIGERIA MATCH
“I’m not looking ahead that far. I’m just looking ahead to tomorrow’s recovery and going again on Tuesday against Nigeria, which will be a very good team. A lot of players play in England and Europe. So I’ve just got to go out there and show what I can do. Our team has got so many good players as well. So we can’t fear Nigeria. You see today, when we started playing and the second half, they (Benin ) couldn’t contain us.”
Chirewa replaced an in effective Prince Dube at the start of the second half on Thursday and gave a good account of himself.
He could be in the starting line up against Nigeria.
The 21 – year – old star is also enjoying a new lease of life at Huddersfield in League One with nine appearance since his January loan move.
WHAT HE SAID ABOUT LIFE AT HUDDERSFIELD
“It’s been good. It’s been brilliant. I’ve got so much love there. I’ve played a lot of minutes.So the more I play, the better I’m going to get.”
Chirewa has four caps already with Zimbabwe and has scored one goal in a 3 – 1 defeat to South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers.
HE REFLECTS ON HIS BENIN PERFORMANCE AND REPRESENTING ZIMBABWE

“It was a good game. I think we started slowly, which kind of cost us in the game. But I feel as though we recovered it well and it’s progression.That’s what we can do. Just keep progressing and I hope we on Tuesday get another good result.
“The coach told me to Just go out there and play. That’s kind of what it is. Go out there, get in the pockets and kind of show what I can do. And I feel as though I did it to a decent level.
“I wouldn’t say it’s mind-blowing, but it’s a start. Good to be back on the pitch for some of my country. So we push on from there.
“Just playing for my country. It’s what I love to do. It’s an honour and it’s something that makes my family proud. It makes me proud and I want to do everyone proud. And just produce the goods for my country,” he said.
The Nigeria – Zimbabwe kicks off at 6pm and the Southern African country will be looking for their first win over Nigeria in a competitive match.The reverse fixture finished on a 1 – 1 draw back in November 2023.
