Top Zimbabwean boxer Beavan ‘The One’ Sibanda is set to defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) International minimumweight title against the highly-rated Filipino challenger, Joey Canoy in a highly anticipated boxing showdown.
The title bout is scheduled to take place on October 4, 2025, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Sibanda, a promising 23-year-old prospect, will be making his first defense of the IBF belt he recently claimed with a fifth-round knockout victory over Richard Garde.
The Zimbabwean boxer’s impressive win in South Africa in early July not only secured him the title but also held a deeper personal significance.
Sibanda earned his shot at the IBF title after a hard-fought unanimous points victory over former South African junior-flyweight champion Nhlanhla Tyirha earlier this year in Cape Town.
His record stands at 9-1 with three knockouts, and he is currently ranked No. 5 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and No. 9 by the IBF.
He has also faced other elite African opponents, including a majority decision loss to Siyakholwa Kuse last year in a WBC Silver minimumweight contest.
“And Still…” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“4th Of October I will be making my first defense Book your seats its gonna be chaos
Thanks to @goldengloves1977 for yet another Golden opportunity its Destiny Decree and God Ordained I will Come out on top.”
Canoy, is a seasoned 32-year-old fighter with a record of 24-5-2 and 15 knockouts. Canoy is highly ranked across multiple boxing organizations, including No. 3 by the WBC, No. 7 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), No. 10 by the IBF, and No. 14 by the World Boxing Association (WBA).
He is on a seven-fight winning streak and recently captured the WBC International minimumweight belt with a 10th-round stoppage of Minh Phat Sam.
The fight between Sibanda and Canoy headlines a card that also features other notable bouts.
Former world title challenger Froilan Saludar (37-8-1, 26 KOs) will face International Boxing Organization (IBO) Youth bantamweight title holder Charlton Malajika (8-1, 3 KOs) in a 10-round contest.
Additionally, All Rivera (23-5, 18 KOs) will go up against South African prospect Donjuan Van Heerden (10-3, 7 KOs) in a middleweight fight.
