It was an absolute spectacle at Queens Sports Club as the Chevrons, led by a sensational opening partnership from Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani, dismantled Namibia by 33 runs to take a1-0 lead in the T20I series.
The Namibians made a bold call to field first, but it backfired spectacularly. Bennett and Marumani unleashed an all-out assault, putting on a breathtaking 124-run partnership that set the stage on fire.
Bennett was simply unstoppable, blasting his way to a magnificent 94 off just 51 balls, a knock studded with eight fours and four massive sixes.
And with that knock claimed the Player of the Match accolade.
Not to be outdone, his partner in crime, Marumani, hammered a crucial 62 from 48 balls, showcasing a perfect blend of power and precision.
With the openers setting an explosive pace, the Chevrons kept their foot on the gas. A strategic promotion saw the hard-hitting Ryan Burl unleashed, and he delivered a fiery cameo of 22 runs from just nine deliveries, leaving the Namibian bowlers reeling.
Captain Sikandar Raza then joined the party, smashing a quickfire 23 not out to help propel Zimbabwe to a monstrous total of 211 for 3.
Despite a valiant effort, Namibia’s chase never truly took off.
They showed flashes of brilliance, but the Chevrons’ bowlers were relentless. Raza followed up his batting heroics with a masterful spell, bagging two wickets for just 31 runs.
He was brilliantly supported by the fiery Blessing Muzarabani, who also claimed two key scalps. The rest of the attack chipped in with a wicket each, choking the Namibian innings and restricting them to 178 for 7.
The second match of the series promises another thrilling showdown. Will the Chevrons clinch the series with a game to spare, or can Namibia mount a heroic comeback and force a decider tomorrow?
All eyes will be on Queens Sports Club to see which team emerges victorious.
