The Zimbabwe men national cricket team, the Chevrons, have arrived for the T20 Tri-Series with a singular and ambitious objective: to claim the tournament trophy against formidable opponents, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The series, which also features Sri Lanka, is viewed by the Chevrons as a crucial, high-pressure test as they build towards the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Speaking ahead of their campaign, Zimbabwe’s batting coach, Dion Ebrahim, made the team’s winning intention perfectly clear, leaving no room for ambiguity about their focus.
“Look, we’re looking to win. We’ve come to this Tri-Series with the ambition to win. To compete in every game,” Ebrahim stated.
He emphasised that for a squad that has been together for over a year, the goal is about continuous progress, stating, “So it’s trying to put two steps forward in terms of our preparation leading to the World Cup. And it starts with trying to win this tournament.”
This tri-series offers the Sikandar Raza-led side a vital chance to rebound and find crucial winning momentum, especially after a recent 3–0 T20I whitewash against Afghanistan. Facing two of Asia’s subcontinent giants, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the team is desperate to settle on a winning combination.
The coach confirmed high morale despite the demanding environment and the change in schedule. The squad’s collective experience, specifically from players who have featured in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), will be invaluable under the challenging night-time conditions of the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Veterans like captain Raza and the returning Brendan Taylor are expected to shoulder much of the responsibility as the Chevrons aim to make a lasting impression.
Despite the loss of pace spearhead Blessing Muzarabani to injury, the established work ethic and hunger to succeed are expected to drive the team forward.
The message from the camp is unequivocal: the ambition for this tournament is nothing short of victory.
