Top amateur golfer Tanaka Chatora bagged his second title of the season on the local circuit after winning the Masvingo Amateur Golf Tournament at Masvingo Golf Club on Saturday.
Chatora shot a brilliant 6 – under par 210 winning total following rounds of 70 70 and 70 in the annual two day event.
The 18 – year -old kicked off the year on high note after winning the the season opening Dugmore Trophy in January.
Darlington Chikanyambidze finished second in Masvingo five shots further back on 1 – under par 215 after carding 75 69 and 71.
Kelvin Muchenje signed for rounds of 75 72 and 72 to settle for a fourth place finish on 3 – over par while Tawana Mangoma completed the top five with a 6 – over total.
Chatora’s victory put an end to a run of two consecutive victories for Gweru – based golfer Lloyd Dube who won the Masvingo Amateur Championship in 2023 and 2024.
Unfortunately Dube was not available to defend his title.
In the women section, teenage star Miriam Masiya continued with her dominance on the local scene with yet another triumph.
Masiya, playing on his home course, shot a magnificent 1 – under par 215 total to ensure that she has won all but one of the tournaments in the country so far.
The only event she missed was the Dugmore Trophy which went to veteran golfer Batsirai Tilowakuti in January.
Masiya beat her older sister Modestar Masiya, who was a massive 27 strokes behind.
